Hi there! My name is Najla Sallum and I am a licensed psychotherapist in Florida. I graduated with a Master's Degree in Clinical Social Work from Barry University, Miami. I started my private practice to be able to serve my community, by providing targeted and person-centered therapy. I am also fluent in Portuguese and Spanish.
I believe that knowledge is power, so my focus is on clients achieving self-awareness. I believe that once we understand who we truly are, we are capable of making better choices. My passion is to empower clients, so they can become the most self-aware version of themselves.
The following are some of the modalities I use in treatment: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Attachment-Based; Internal Family Systems (IFS) and conscious regression; Psychoanalysis and Dynamics; Art Therapy; Narrative Therapy; etc..
Although i work with all age groups, I focus on specific target behaviors for each group. My focus is as follows:
*Children 10 and younger: Focus is on Parenting Skills and Guidance for the parents. Target behaviors: disobedience; hyperactivity; child-parent dynamics, and behavioral issues in social scenarios.
*Pre-teens and Adolescents: defiance and opposition; rebellious behaviors; self-harming and injurious behaviors; self-esteem and confidence; anxiety and depression; family dynamics; trauma; and life transitions.
*Adults and Couples: anxiety; depression; personality disorder; narcissistic abuse; domestic violence; trauma; self-sabotage behaviors; communication issues; addiction; family dynamics; betrayal and cheating; confidence and self-esteem; career focus; self-expressive skills; and overall life challenges.
Many individuals can experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstances. Anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are a few emotions that can linger post traumatic events. My work is Trauma-informed, as I am well-versed in the sensitive and confidential nature of this work.
In addition to therapy, I also provide immigration evaluations. I have worked with immigration evaluations for over 5 years, where I provide services for local attorneys. My experience entails the following evaluations: Hardship; VAWA; U and T Visa; Cancellation of Removal; Special Immigrant; Asylum; and N648 (we have a doctorate level psychologist on staff).
I am taking all precautions for COVID-19. Masks, social distancing, and frequent cleaning is implemented. I also offer virtual sessions via Zoom, to ensure safety.

There are many reasons I do not accept insurance. I have in the past, and have found that I can better serve my clients by spending my time working with them, rather than spending many hours on billing insurance and trying to comply with each required nuance to receive payment.
Also, health insurance companies require a diagnosis in order to pay for counseling sessions. Often, a mental health diagnosis is not warranted and would be unethical to submit. In other cases, even if there is a valid diagnosis, many clients prefer not to have a mental health diagnosis on their permanent medical record.
